7 Things that aspiring authors should learn from J K Rowling.

There is no way that a kid born in the ’90s does not know about the Harry Potter novels and film series and the writer behind them.

J.K Rowling first had the impression of Harry Potter while on a delayed train travelling from Manchester to London King’s Cross in 1990. And in the next five years, she began to devise the seven books of the series.

She wrote in ordinary handwriting and gathered a heap of notes, mostly on scraps of paper which would eventually change her life as a writer.

But what is more inspirational is her journey throughout the completion of the worldwide hit series.

The hardships she had to go through while writing and trying to find publishers for her book.

In this blog, we shall discuss seven things that aspiring authors should learn from J.K Rowling.

Be Serious About Your Work.

Many of us think that writing is a fun part of our lives and we should do it as a hobby.

But J.K Rowling has something else to say. She advises people and young authors to take writing as work, though not a full-time nine-to-five job. In a way so as to make improvements and furnish their writing abilities.

While finishing her work, she was working full-time and raising a child as a single parent.

But even though her schedule and life were busy and hectic, she managed to write consistently and with the same flow.

Write at whatever time you have.

One of the most crucial tips that J.K Rowling gives to young authors is to write with whatever time they have. She mentions it because not everyone is it possible to stay at home and do nothing except write.

We all have our work and jobs and businesses, and we cannot just quit everything. There are so many other responsibilities that lie in front of us, and we cannot ignore them. Hence, it is best to write at whatever time we have according to our schedule and daily routine.

Finish what you start.

Rowling emphasizes on writers finish what they start because she thinks that completing something may boost their confidence and motivate them to do it again with more concentration and positivity.

In her opinion, when you complete a manuscript, you take pride in yourself which is “an extraordinarily powerful piece of knowledge.”

Making mistakes and learning through them is a part of the journey, and one must be ready for it in the learning process.

Rewriting is Essential.

Rowling rewrote the first chapter of her first book fifteen times!

Hence she advises writers to redraft so as to come up with ideal words, paragraphs, and storytelling in their work.

When we rewrite, we find errors that we might have missed, plus rewriting can help you make necessary alterations in your work so as to make it more representable and intriguing.

In the Harry Potter books, many characters were taken out, and some were dropped out wholly. Some characters’ timelines were restructured as well.

All this was done to improvise the storytelling and build the reader’s interest.

Be ready to be Criticized.

Commonly, many people will like and respect your hard work, and many won’t. It isn’t a thing to be bothered about.

There are different-different types of people in the world, and not all of them have the same brain! Some like comedy, and some stay serious. It is human nature, and it can vary with people.

Therefore, you must keep in mind that you won’t demoralize yourself based on other people’s ideas about you.

When you put effort and try to make something creative and meaningful, remember that not everyone is going to look at it the same way as you do.

It is Okay to Be Scared.

Nervousness is also a part of human nature. But it can have severe issues if you do not accept it and try to fight it now and then.

Just relax and take deep breaths. Do not let negativity take your side because that can maim your ideas.

It is okay to be scared when writing and speaking about things because you express your underlying feelings and your point of view about things from your perspective.

“Anything is possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” – J.K Rowling.

Write what you Love.

Being able to write your heart out is the best way to become a successful writer. And with passion, can you only touch the inner side of your readers and inspire them through your work.

“It matters not what someone is born but what they grow to be.” – J.K Rowling.
